Audience

Application and system programmers new to the AIX Operating System. This course combines Introduction to AIX with chapters on the AIX programming environment.

  4. Shell Basics (history, alias, environment variables)

  5. Using the Korn Shell Note1

  6. AIX Processes (ps, nice, and kill commands, process scheduling)

  7. The vi Editor Note1

  8. An Introduction to Korn Shell Programming Note1

  9. AIX Data Tools (grep, sort, sed, find, etc)

  10. The AIX Programming Environment

  11. The make Facility

  12. Source Code Librarians (SCCS and RCS)

  13. The dbx Debugger Note1

  14. Using TCP/IP Note2

  15. Using the Graphical User Interface Note2

  16. Real Time Programming Concepts Note2

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Instructional Technique

Students are invited to bring their current ideas and questions to the classroom for discussion. Lecture, group problem solving, and online laboratories will be used. Students will be encouraged to enhance their skills utilizing the techniques presented through classroom problem solving and controlled online workshops.

Prerequisites

None.

While C language examples are used throughout, this is not a programming course and little or no C programming experience is required. Some general understanding of programming concepts is helpful, but not essential.
